Welcome to the Community Action: MK website. We support the amazing work happening in and around Milton Keynes’ communities, we support you to take action in your community whether you are part of a charity, a community group or an individual looking to make a difference!
Volunteering is a healthy thing to do. It benefits not only the borough of Milton Keynes and its people but also the volunteers who can derive skills, experience and the knowledge that you are helping others. Our five year draft strategy builds on the firm foundations established over the last forty years by the Volunteer Centre:MK and the plethora of volunteer involving organisations operating in the borough.
The draft focuses upon an ambitious series of outcomes and provides for a range of actions that will grow volunteering, demonstrate where and how this is happening, identify what additional support is required and overall provide the conditions for volunteering to continue to flourish in the borough.
Our draft strategy identifies the fundamental role volunteering plays in working to deliver on important issues for Milton Keynes; moving people into paid employment, improving health and wellbeing and contributing to the personal development of young people.
We invite you to help shape this important strategy for the voluntary, private and public sector. We believe we can all work together to make volunteering a strategic force for change, increase the number and diversity of people volunteering and improve standards and best practice.
If you are a volunteer supporting organisation we’d love to know what you think of the three strategic objectives in the strategy - are they the right ones? How will they help you deliver your objectives?
If you are or have been a volunteer, please tell us about that experience - what do you feel you get out of it and what would make you continue volunteering?
If you are interested in volunteering generally and how it can contribute to making our city a better place to live, please share your views with us.
The consultation period will run from 7th November until 31st January 2014.
Over the next few weeks we will be popping up all over the city to get your feedback - look out for further details of where we will be.
This year as part of our AGM, we held a cake competition for groups and individuals to showcase their culinary skills. The theme was 'secret ingredient", what makes your group/community great? And the entries were simply amazing!

The Secret ingredient is "Care"
The top heart represents a person in need of care; support, being supported by their family; friends, who are suported by Carers MK; who in turn are supported by the local community in the form of volunteers, funders and donors
